It’s time to saddle up and take a ride to the Wild West when the members of the St. James Ladies Society host their 49th Annual Country Store and Luncheon on Saturday, October 8, 2016 in John Gogian Hall, St. James Armenian Apostolic Church, 4950 West Slauson Boulevard, Los Angeles. The shoot-out begins at 11:00 a.m. with a Champagne Reception and the traditional bake sale followed at 12 noon by lunch and a program featuring Western music and songs.Â
Sosi Adourian, Chair of the Ladies Society, reports that the theme for the annual luncheon this year is “Diamonds and Denims.” “We will have our usual country store,” she states, “presenting treasured and mouth-watering Armenian baked goods prepared by our members.  Our guests look forward each year to the wide array of their favorite Armenian delicacies, including choereg, simit, khadayif, paklava, and many more. These cherished recipes are as valuable as diamonds and we anticipate another sell-out. In addition to a fantastic Western style program, we will have numerous cash and gift raffle prizes.”Â
Lily Balian, Chair of the Program Committee, reports that guests will be entertained by Arshag Chookoorian’s band of country music “Driven’ Mama Crazy.” Chookoorian just completed a successful performance during the summer at Magic Mountain and is well known to country music fans throughout the country. Guests will also be entertained by noted singer Sergey Arustamyan, who will be singing songs from one of the first Broadway major musicals, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s “Oklahoma.” We would be remiss if we did not acknowledge that the famous Armenian theatrical and motion picture Director Rouben Mamoulian directed the first Broadway production of “Oklahoma” in 1943 and again when it was reprised in 1953.Â
Rev. Fr. Haroutioun Tachejian, Pastor of St. James, expressed his thanks and appreciation to the members of the Ladies Society for their continued devotion and dedication to their beloved church and the Armenian community. Fr. Haroutioun stated that their efforts contribute to the well being, growth and development of our faith, religion and culture for future generations.
Donation for the luncheon is $55.00 at the door; $50.00 Advance Purchase. For sponsorships, information and reservations, contact the Church Office (323) 295-4588. Â
