On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, the Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian, accompanied by the Rev. Fr. Zaven Markosyan, Pastor of St. Sarkis Armenian Church of Santa Clarita took part in the 43rd Annual Red Mass honoring judges, lawyers, legistlators and legal professionals at the Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels.
First celebrated in Paris in 1245, the Annual Red Mass is traditionally celebrated at the opening of the Judicial Year, significantly that of the U.S. Supreme Court, each October. The Red Mass received its name from the celebrant’s red vestments and the Lord High Justices’ robes of brilliant scarlet. In Los Angeles, this annual tradition is sponsored by the Saint Thomas Moore Society of Los Angeles.
The day’s celebrant was Archbishop Jose H. Gomez, Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Los Angeles. Father Barnaby Johns, O.S.A., Prior Provincial of the Province of Saint Augustine in California, was the homilist. Associate Justice of the California Supreme Court the Honorable Martin J. Jenkins, whose message themed around the Courage of Love served as the closing speaker.
