On Sunday, December 12, 2021, the Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian paid a pastoral visit to St. James Armenian Church of Los Angeles where the faithful community held the 80th anniversary of the Church’s Name Day celebration.
As the celebrant and homilist, Archbishop Derderian called upon the parish family to renew their commitment of service to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ and the Armenian Apostolic Church.
During the service, Archbishop Derderian ordained sub-deacons Gary Garabed Kemkemian and Roby Kemkemian into the Diaconate, exhorting the altar servers to remain steadfast and resolute in their ancestral Christian Faith and to preserve, cherish and promote the sacred traditions of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Christian values and morals which we commonly hold in reverence.
Following the service, a banquet was held at the Gogian Hall during which long-time members of the St. James Ladies Society and Parish Council Mrs. Sirarpi Salmastlian, Mrs. Anahid Darwich Sousanian, Mr. Ohannes Sousanian, and Mrs. Patricia Alice Zakian Samarge were honored by the Primate with the Diocesan Hye Spirit Awards. The Primate expressed words of gratitude and commendation to Fr. Haroutioun Tachejian for his outstanding pastoral leadership and to the Parish Council and all auxiliary committees for becoming the ambassadors of Christ in the community of Los Angeles.
