On August 5, His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians; sent a letter of condolences to Mr. Michel Naim Aoun, President of the Republic of Lebanon, expressing His deep sorrow caused by the huge explosion in Beirut, resulting in the death of more than seventy innocent victims, and injuring thousands.
His Holiness extended condolences to the state officials of Lebanon, as well as, His Holiness conveyed his deepest sympathies and condolences to the families of those killed, granting the quick recovery of the injured victims.
‘’Our wish is that the pious Lebanese people will soon overcome the current difficulties and carry on with their peaceful life and creative work”, said the Pontiff's message The Catholicos of All Armenians also had a phone call with His Holiness Aram I, Catholicos of the Great House of Cilicia, extending His support to the Brotherhood of the Great House of Cilicia and the Armenian community in Lebanon in this difficult time.
The Pontiff of All Armenians has extended His condolences to His Holiness Aram I on the occasion of the deaths of three Armenians, inquired about the damages that the blast inflicted upon the population of Beirut, the Armenian community and the Catholicosate itself.
