Hundreds Attend the Opening of Armenia: An Open Wound - An Exhibition Chronicling the Armenian Genocide (1915-1923)

More than 500 people attended the opening exhibition of ā€œArmenia: An Open Woundā€ at the Brand Central Library in Glendale on April 16, 2016. TheĀ exhibition was created a year ago through joint efforts of Mexican-Armenians and the Museum of Memory and ToleranceĀ in Mexico. The Diocesan Primate Archbishop Hovnan Derderian attended the opening ceremony accompanied by the Very Rev. Fr. Dajad Dz. V. Yardemian, the Very Rev. Fr. Pakrad Berjekian, Archpriest Fr. Sarkis Petoyan and the Rev. Fr. Vazken Movsesian.

Commenting on the importance of exhibition as a major undertaking, Archbishop Derderian stated ā€œThis exhibition comes to life at a time when our nation is challenged by the brutal acts and aggression by the Azeris who have disrupted the peaceful lives of our brothers and sisters in Artsakh and Armenia.

Every Armenian, young and old must visit the exhibition and bring along a non-Armenian friend to share with them not only the harsh lessons of our history imposed upon us by the Ottoman Turks and Azeris but above all to learn about the resilience of our nation.

My special appreciation and gratitude to the Museum Committee chaired by Mr. Berdj Karapetian for their diligent work. Today, I especially would like to acknowledge the presence of Mrs. Sonia Arakelian who has been most influential and instrumental in the construction of the Museum of Tolerance in Mexico City and the initiation of the Armenia: An Open Wound exhibition dedicated to the Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.ā€

The exhibition, which itĀ reveals the story of the Armenian people is scheduled to remain open through June 11, 2016. The exhibition includesĀ 80 exhibits, among them photos, documents, historic objects, records and evenĀ personal belongings of historical and cultural importance.
