American University Of Armenia Holds A Special Forum At The Western Diocese

AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF ARMENIA HOLDS A SPECIAL FORUM  AT THE WESTERN DIOCESE

Close to 50 people took part in a special forum at the Western Diocese of the Armenian Church of North America on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at 7:30 p.m. Organized by the Board of Trustees of the American University of Armenia, the informative event featured panelists AUA Board of Trustees Chairman Lawrence H. Pitts, AUA President Dr. Armen Der Kiureghian and AUA President Emeritus and Board Member Dr. Haroutune Armenian. UC affiliation and US accreditation, AUA academics and rural development were among the evening’s topics of discussion. The forum was moderated by AUA Vice President of Development Miss Lorraine Alexander.

In his remarks, the Primate commended the noble mission of the American University of Armenia. At the conclusion of his address, Archbishop Hovnan Derderian introduced a new initiative of collaboration between the two institutions. His Eminence would cover the annual tuition cost of one AUA student. The new program was met with great enthusiasm as a number of guests volunteered to partake in the newly launched initiative.

A special form The American University of Armenia opened its doors to 101 students on September 21, 1991, on the same day when Armenia declared its independence. As an institution of higher learning, the American University of Armenia provides teaching, research, and service programs that prepare students and enable faculty and researchers to address the needs of Armenia and the surrounding region for sustainable development, in a setting that values and develops academic excellence, free inquiry, integrity, scholarship, leadership, and service to society.
